Sustainability is not a destination, but a journey that requires perseverance. For Bioracer, that journey began in 2019, when the company first committed to the Voka Charter for Sustainable Entrepreneurship (VCDO). It was a success: after two years of cycling through challenges and areas for improvement, the SDG Pioneer certificate was achieved.
In 2025, Bioracer is once again firmly in the saddle. The ambition: recertification and, above all, the structural anchoring of sustainability in the company’s strategy and daily operations.

The power of a peloton
In 2024, an ESG working group was set up, composed of colleagues from various departments and the CEO. Not only to provide direction, but also to combine decision-making power. The idea: to embed sustainability in the daily decision-making process, just as a peloton rides stronger by working together.
From analysis to action
In 2024, the new ESG team kicked off. Just as a cyclist analyses their wattage to improve their performance, we started with a materiality analysis. This extensive exercise clearly identified the sustainability issues that are most relevant to both the company and its stakeholders. This enabled us to analyse Bioracer’s impact on the world, and the world’s impact on Bioracer. The roadmap for the coming years was drawn up in clear KPIs. These were derived from, among other things, a stakeholder analysis and a complete disclosure of our product value chain. When drawing up the value chain, we looked beyond what we do ourselves. We investigated the upstream of our fabrics, papers, yarns, inks and so much more. Plans are also being made for the downstream to break through the linear model in the long term via circular systems.
Sustainability was incorporated into Bioracer’s values under the African term “volhoudbaarheid” (“perseverance”). Because things must be sustainable for people, the planet and the company. Given that it applies in every context, we consider it a given that it surrounds our other values: inclusivity, innovation, service, trust and passion.
Bioracer’s ethical principles remain valid and are reinforced by the statement of commitment. This highlights our commitment to the environment, society and governance. Together with the selection of priority Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), this paves the way for the coming years.

The priority European Development Goals set for Bioracer are:
SDG 3 – Good health and well-being: through innovative sportswear that protects athletes and enhances their performance.
SDG 8 – Decent work and economic growth: Bioracer promotes a strong economy and fair labour market as a forward-thinking player in the cycling apparel sector.
SDG 9 – Industry, innovation and infrastructure: Bioracer promotes sustainable innovation through ecological production techniques, renewable energy, automation and ergonomic working environments.
SDG 12 – Responsible consumption and production: Bioracer guarantees fair and safe working conditions in its own production facilities and is exploring circular business models for the future.
SDG 13 – Climate action: Bioracer reduces its carbon footprint through sustainable production and mobility, develops its own measurement system and achieves the extension of its VOKA Pioneer status in 2025.
SDG 17 – Partnerships for the goals: Bioracer has been building sustainable partnerships for years and is committed to inclusivity, so that every day, every athlete and every continent can enjoy sport.

Concrete results
The analyses did not remain on the drawing board. A total of 19 sustainability actions were planned and implemented, neatly in line with Voka’s 12 Pioneer criteria. From energy efficiency to circular initiatives, Bioracer pedalled hard. This not only met the formal requirements, but also created broad support within the organisation.
Certificate obtained – but the journey continues
The result? The coveted certificate was obtained! But just like a stage victory, the race does not stop at the finish line. For Bioracer, this is just a moment to straighten up in the saddle, before refocusing on the road ahead.
The way forward
The central question remains: How can Bioracer structurally integrate sustainability into every step the company takes? The answer lies in sustained action, continuous adjustment and the power of collaboration.
Because in the race for sustainability, there is no finish line. Only a steady rhythm, a clear course and a peloton that moves forward together. Together, we make speed sustainable.
